Cautionary (return) key signature at end of D.S. al Coda before returning to Segno

I can’t figure out how to get Dorico 6 to put a cautionary (return) key signature at the end of the last bar before the return to the Segno. (I haven’t found a post on this specific issue for over a year now.) If Dorico can’t currenly accomplish this, can someone give a detailed workaround? The ones I’ve seen posted do not work for some reason.I love how Dorico automatically splits and formats the entire D.S. al Coda process but this possibility seems to be missing.

Hi @johncomposer, this was already being requested and is on the radar of the Team.

Did you see this?

Hi Vadian,

I did see it, but I couldn’t get it to work. I couldn’t get the added fake measure to show “no barline” at the end. I pulled together several replies (some of them differing from others) and could not get consensus.

Could you or someone else please post the steps in order that work with Dorico 6.X? For more info, my piece is in Eb major at the beginning and at the Coda, but in Bb major at the section where the D.S. occurs a the end (m 89, Coda is then at m. 90).

Thanks Christian!

Please try the following:

This is the general structure

  • Insert a 4/4 signature at the beginning of the coda and hide it.
  • Change the last bar before the coda to 2/4,1 and hide the time signature.
  • Delete the bars after the pickup bar with SHIFT B.
  • Insert the E♭ key signature into the pickup bar.
  • Change the barline before the coda to dash and set the dash length in Engraving Options > Barline to zero.
  • Select the rest, enable Force position and duration in the properties and remove the rest.
  • Exclude the “dummy” bar from being counted if needed.

The result is

I forgot to change the key signature in the coda but this is an easy task

Vadian, thanks so much; this worked, except for a couple of things.

(I had to edit your plan to add a fake pickup measure first and then do everything to that; otherwise I ended up 1 bar short in the phrase leading up to the D.S. Right?)

Two things have happened that I cannot fix:

  1. As I removed rests, the fake extra pickup bar actually got wider. This would be a problem since I can adjust that measure width in Engrave Mode, except that…
  2. In Engrave Mode the score shows quarter rests on selected staves which do not show in Write Mode. THey are all on condensed staves (which include 2 instrument staves each.)

Can you help me get rid of these rests, as well as telling me why the false bar is getting bigger when empty?

Thanks in advance.

Regarding the condensing issue I asked a similar question a couple of weeks ago

The answer to write notes and hide notehead and stem worked for me.

That worked! Thanks for your help. I sure hope this gets the clean up in an upcoming update.
