(I’ve been getting some rendering issues since upgrading to 6. Edit: it’s a V5 problem)
I attach an example. I’ve highlighted the note in question in red, and you’ll be able to see that the CC1 lane at the end of that note oscillates rapidly, causing the note to cut in and out.
I tried deleting and re-entering the dynamics (changes not included in the file) but the same thing continues to happen.
The very rapid >pp is for playback only and will be hidden in the final score. It’s there because the end of notes in the BBCSO flautando patch is very sudden - that little diminuendo makes things a fraction smoother.
The other rendering issues relate to notes cutting out. I haven’t looked yet to see if CC1 is playing a part there.
Are you sure this is something specific to Dorico 6? I get exactly the same CC1 jagged line with oscillating playback in D5. If the playback template for NotePerfomer is applied, the issue disappears. I’m afraid I’m not quite clear how your playback configuration applies to what is actually in the score – is it possible to simplify it so the actual score instruments correspond to the playback config for the purposes of demonstration? I don’t remember myself any issues with the BBC SO in flautando.
Interesting, I’ll have a look to see if the jagged lines appear in the last Dorico 5 version. Even if they were there in 5, they didn’t affect playback. Thanks!
Here’s the first version that’s not, at a lower magnification to show the full length of the crescendo. There’s no visible difference in the the dynamics lane.
I’ve compared the appropriate page from the two projects by eye in write mode and I can’t see any differences between them that would account for this. It is a multi-flow project.
An update. I’ve managed to reduce the problem, but not completely fix it. But I can live with it now.
The point where the problem happens is with the first violins when they are in a solo / gli altri divisi. The effect happens just on the gli altri staff, and it’s massively reduced by suppressing playback of the >pp on the solo staff!
I have independent voice playback enabled. The solo staff is played by Noteperformer 4.5.1 / NPPE. The gli altri is played by a directly-hosted Spitfire BBCSO instance.
I think this could be impossible for the Dorico team to reproduce because it might depend on the specific libraries in some way - but if the team want to look at it, I’ll help in any way I can.
Usually when I see this sort of thing it results from two “tracks” in Play mode both being connected to the same VSTi slot+port+channel combination, and the differing CC1 from those two tracks battling with each other.
