Centred beam of different value notes on two staves

I have cross staff beamed some notes by entering them on the treble staff, then moving some of the notes to the bass staff, as in diagram below. However, I would like the two top ‘C’s on the treble staff to have a longer duration - the first to be a crotchet, and the second to be a dotted quaver, as in second diagram below. How do I achieve this?

You must enter them in another voice (in addition to the existing one), and use Force Duration.

I have this option enabled in Notation Option > Voices, which allows the dotted eighth to overlap with the sixteenth.

If you don’t want it as a global option, you can tweak it in Engrave Mode by changing the Voice Column Index:

Thank you for your help, Charles. I have managed to follow your advice to enter another voice and get up-stems on the high ‘C’ notes. But I’m struggling with using Force Duration for these notes. I get two crotchets and the cross stave beam disappears. Trouble is I cannot get any sound when I play your 3 attached video-clips. I have checked my sound system by playing another clip from a different post, and the system and speakers are fine.

That’s normal, it’s a silent movie! Sorry for that.

I’m not sure I understand exactly the description of your issue… Could you maybe provide screenshots of the steps, with voice colors turned on[1]?

You can also upload your file here if you want, of course.

Now that I know that it’s a silent movie (!) and have magnified the text to follow the steps you took, I have succeeded in using Force Duration and activating ‘voice column index’. One problem solved, thank you very much. But I have a more complex bar with which I am struggling:

I have attempted to improve the legibility of this bar by following your instructions. I’m not sure that it’s any more readable. Could this be improved? If so, what do I need to do?

What about something like this (much clearer to sight-read and to play, I’d say)?

Let me add that this kind of notation is perfectly correct as well (with or without the l.v. ties, since lv ties + ped is actually redundant here):

Yes, much clearer the ways you have suggested, Charles, and I have now succeeded in notating it. I really appreciate your help with this. Thank you!
