Hello!
Is this the correct way to change divisi in Dorico? For me, it seems more natural that the music remains in the Violins 1 and 2 staffs . Only to know that I am doing it in the correct way.
Thanks!

It’s a little hard to tell from your screenshot, but I think you should have a divisi change in the first violins when the solo line starts (even if that’s right at the beginning of the piece), and then restore the unison in bar 6.
What you’ve got there is adding a divisi to the first violins in bar 6.
I have this in bar 1. In the point of the previous screenshot (bar 6) I want to “restore” (I think in Dorico is change) to violin divisi 1 and 2. and remains in that way

Sorry, the example is for a entire section of violins 1 in a full orchestra. First with solo and 2 divisi, and later only 2 divisi.
Okay – in that case, I think your first screenshot is correct. In bar 6, your first violins are divided in 2, and your second violins are playing unison.
Edit: I think you have mistakenly entered notes in the wrong staves in bar 6. In Galley view, you should see something like this:
Notice how the third staff drops out in bar 6. As of that bar, the top staff is the first division (not the solo) and the second staff is the second division.
Keep in mind that Dorico can’t change the number or allocation of staves for a divisi mid-system. So galley view will let you see the staves you have available, and then in Engrave mode you’ll need to add system breaks so that it looks correct.
ok, I understand that I have to write the music for violin 1 in the staff that was assigned to solo violin, and the music for violin 2 I have to write in the staff of the previous violin 1.
This is the real example of my music. I have problems, because disappear de music in the divisi 2.
The 3 staffs are the Violins 1 section
Yes, there are some cases regarding ties and slurs over divisi changes that don’t get handled well.
Any suggestions for this specific case? I need to solve it
You’re presumably looking at galley view there, @carlos80. How does the music look in page view (which is of course how it will be printed for the performers)?
The music also desappears. First image is without the divisi change and second image is with the divisi change.
Hello @dspreadbury, Is there anyone on Dorico’s team who can help me with this issue?
Thank you,
There is no obviously simple solution, but you could maintain the divisi with one solo staff and two section division staves throughout, and use manual staff visibility to hide the solo staff in systems where it is not needed:
Yes, I’ve faced this problem with tied notes that continue across a divisi boundary. I think John’s solution is the best one available at the moment.
If you want the solo staff not to show the empty bar, you can use a cutaway. I’ve done this too.
You could to enter some text to indicate that the soloist rejoins the div. a 2 if that’s what you want.
Thank you so much @johnkprice! It works!
