Can I rename a player and have the renamed name in the score/part? I’d like to change the 1 and 2 in a duet to letters. I can rename the players in setup mode but that doesn’t change what appears in the score.
There are a few different ways of doing this.
By default, part layouts use the name of the player, and staff labels in score layouts use the name of the instrument. So one approach is to rename both the player and the instrument. (Actually, if the player holds only one instrument, and you rename the instrument, the player name will change as well.)
Hi @fritzhansen, adding to the suggestions by @asherber, to overcome the automatic numbering of the same instrument held by different players, and to have letters instead of numbers in the staff labels, you can rename the players as suggested (both the long and short name), and set the corresponding Layout Option to show the player name for the staff labels. This will also rename the layout, as @asherber said, and the label will be visible in the Parts Layout on the upper left (because the corresponding token in the page template refers to the layout name):
