Greetings. I initiated instrument changes from French Horn to Horn (F), and the naming changes showed up in the Full Score as I expected, but not in the parts, which are still labeled as “French Horn”. I’ve searched the usual places to figure the issue out, and am at a loss. Does anyone have any advice? I am using the current version of Dorico Pro 6. Thank you.
By default, parts are labeled with the LayoutName
So you have to change the name of the Layout on the right too
Thank you so much TonH, that did the trick, though I don’t find that very intuitive.
What is not intuitive about a token called LAYOUT NAME referring to a layout name?
In a score, the staves are by default labeled with the name of the instrument whose music they contain; in Layout Options, you can specify that some or all of them be labeled with the player’s name instead. You changed the instrument, so the staff label changed.
The name of a layout is tied to the name of the player or players whose music it contains, not to the instruments those players hold. When you changed the instrument, the player name stayed the same, and so the layout name stayed the same as well.
I’m actually a little surprised by this – when I change the instrument held by a player, the player’s name does change, and then the layout name changes too.
I added a French Horn player to a new score, and then I changed the instrument that player holds to a Horn. Both the player and layout names also changed.
However, if I have made some change to the name of the player before changing the instrument, then the player name does not change. Is this perhaps what you did? Had you previously made a player name change before switching the instrument from French Horn to Horn?
Oh, stupid me that I have no engraving experience and am trying to learn… thanks for for the very helpful chime in to my honest feelings buddy. You’ve helped me get into a more knowledgeable space. I look forward to more of your wisdom master…
Thanks for the reply asherber. To be honest, I am not sure what I did specifically, as I tried a few different things intuitively and couldn’t effect the changes I wanted. Dorico is obviously a very powerful program, that makes perfect sense to me as a composer, but I have no engraving experience or Adobe-like experience, so that’s why I sought help here. Comments like “what’s not intuitive about tokens” are simply arogant and mean spirited imo.
So thanks for being helpful, I appreciate that.
