Change note grouping

Hi,

I have a question about note grouping in a specific rhythm.
I want to change the two C’s that have a slur in to an eight note.

I’ve found the menu for changing note grouping (shift+cmnd +n) but I don’t know what I have to select to change these two notes into an eight note.

I’m coming from Sibelius and in that software program it was very easy…
I hope someone has the solution. Thanks in advance.

Dorico tries to display the rhythm while preserving the visibility of the 3rd beat. There are many settings regarding preferred tieing of syncopated notes, but off the top of my head, I don’t think there’s a setting for this particular situation. I think you’ll need Force Duration. Select the tied semiquavers/16ths, and then type

  • 4 to change it into a 16th (+ a rest)
  • O (letter O) to activate Force Duration
  • 5 to change it back
It’s better to not have Insert Mode active, otherwise all music after this passage will shift along (which, in a way, is mostly harmless and fun to watch, but it might confuse you).

Hi PjortB,

Thank you for your reply. I’ll definitely try this tomorrow!
