In the screenshot below, you can see I have created a paragraph style called “Top Staff” and set it to Minion Pro 9pt semibold. But when I select the staff text and Change Paragraph Style, it does not display correctly. I’m baffled. And there are quite a few of these that need done, so I was hoping this function could make short work of them.

Take a look at the bottom of your screen shot. The asterisk after the paragraph style name means that the text item has manual changes to the paragraph style. If you double click into the text box and change the style to Top Staff (even though it already says Top Staff), it will clear the manual changes and hook the text back up to the underlying style.
Ah, thanks. I would think changing the paragraph style would override these changes. That extra step negates any time savings in bulk-selecting and changing text items. But at least I know the reason.
Yes, that’s interesting. If you have a text item with changes from the paragraph style, and you apply a new paragraph style, I can see it being useful for Dorico to throw away the changes and just apply the style. But I don’t think that would be consistent with the way Dorico handles manual changes in other situations, like page overrides.
What would be nice is another option in the right click Text menu, Remove All Overrides, or Reset to Style, or something like that.

I believe Edit>Reset Appearance accomplishes this on text.
