Change Project Template?

I do this all the time: I start a new file from the hub. I fill out the information in the panel, and then I click Create. But I have forgotten to change to the proper project template, so the new file is created using the Solo Piano template, which it defaults to on my setup. I usually just immediately delete the file and make a new one. Since the information is still filled out, it doesn’t take long. But is there a way to change the project template once the file has been created? Thanks.

You can’t change any of the templates provided in the program. If you’re thinking about having a template with your project info already in it, then I believe you just create a new template from the file you’ve filled out you info with and that should do it.

Thanks, @algae592009 . I’m actually quite experienced with creating my own custom project templates. My question relates to whether or not I can switch between existing project templates easily once a file has been created.

@windrag
out of interest: when starting a new project via the hub window, can you actually choose a template from there? I don’t remember having seen it there… I am not in front of computer now…
If you start directly by copying one of your specific templates, isn’t that a faster way of reusing them?
Alternatively you could be using the library manager.

@k_b From the hub, choose Create New from the top of the window. You’ll then see the project template picker in the main part of the window, and on the right is a form to fill out Title, Composer, meter, key, etc.

I have many of my own custom project templates created using the Save As Project Template dialog. My question is about whether I can apply a different template once the project has been created. My method of immediately deleting the file and then creating a new one using the proper template is probably the fastest. I was just curious if there was a way to do it with an existing project.

Thanks windrag, no wonder I never thought of this option, as I have never saved a template through the dialogue. I guess the own templates would appear here (this is the iPad interface):

I think the answer to windrag’s original question is no. You can change the playback template after you have created a project using a project template but if you start with a solo piano that does not help if you actually want a full orchestral project template as no additional players will be created.

The only option to save a bit of time is to not enter the project info when you open with the project template and only enter this info when you settled on the correct project template.

Hi @windrag,

being a Project Template a combination of instruments/players + global options, here is how I would approach this:

1. Instruments/Players

if you need to add instruments/players to your current project, there is the Save Ensemble functionality.
You can create a desired ensemble/s, and save it/them, to be then easily chosen later, so that Dorico adds those instruments to your current project all at once. (To delete unwanted instruments/player, you need to do it manually though):

A. Create and Save custom ensemble :

B. Choose and Add an existing saved ensemble:

2. Project Options

If you need to import Global Options from another project or Project Template, you can use the Library Manager.
