Change single bar

Hello everyone,

How do I get the result in Dorico as in the attached example?

Thank you
:musical_note::musical_notes::musical_note:

I’d say you can use two instruments for that player, one instrument that is written on a regular staff, and the other using a 1-line-staff (percussion ? or a variant of the instrument, edited to show on a 1-line-staff)
Then you’ll need some trickery to force Dorico change instrument to a non-playing instrument… Hidden notes from a downstem-voice 1, showing upstem voice 1 rests ?

[/quoteThanks for the answer first of all, but unfortunately I didn’t understand. Maybe because I translate into English with Google Translate and also because I’m not yet fully familiar with Dorico. If you can kindly give me an example with a sreenshot.
Thanks

Something like this. If you really want a rest in the 1-line staff then some more trickery is needed.

And if a rest is requested, @MarcLarcher 's method with hidden note works:

@Jesele was faster…
and @charles_piano !

1 line staff rest.dorico (480,5 Ko)
I could not make it work with percussions, but with an instrument set to be written on a 1 line staff, no problem.

Thank you all for the answers.

Can you kindly show me the procedure step by step (even better with a screenshot)? Because translating with Google I don’t really understand what to do.

Thank you

Ultima cosa: Engrave options>Barlines, c’è bisogna cambiare

E il mio italiano non è buono tanto… :folded_hands:

Grazie @MarcLarcher ,
sei stato gentilissimo :folded_hands:

A chord symbol region might work too - that’s a type of notation that prevents/forces instrument changes without adding visible notation.

Thanks @Lillie_Harris

As a former user of the finale software, I have to say that this was a quick operation, as were all single-measure editing operations.

I hope that in future upgrades the Dorico developers will add these useful features.

Just for curiousity as I don’t need it actually. You often mention for solving some tricky tasks to use two different instruments. Could you tell me where can I find a thorough description how to manage it? I looked at the music OP posted and couldn’t deal with it at all. I’m sure they are several clever tutorials about it, but couldn’t find it. Many thanks!

Sorry but I can’t understand the question. It must be the wrong translation of google translate.
If you can try to rephrase it.

In Setup mode, you can make a player hold more than one instrument – so you can, for example, have a player holding both an oboe and an English horn. In Write mode, in Galley view, you’ll see both staves and can enter the appropriate music for each instrument; in Page view, Dorico will combine the music into a single staff (assuming that you have Layout Options > Players > Instrument Changes > Allow instrument changes ticked).

The staff for each instrument may have different characteristics. For example, oboe and English horn have different transpositions, so when Dorico combines them into a single staff for the player, it will also show the appropriate changes in key signature. In this case, giving a player one instrument with a 5-line staff and one instrument with a 1-line staff is used to produce the effect desired by the OP – using hidden notes to make Dorico treat it like an instrument change.

Here are a couple of relevant sections in the manual.

Attached is a screenshot of the finale software with which this operation (but like many others regarding individual measures) is done easily and quickly. Just select the measure and click with the right mouse button and choose the dedicated function.

I really hope that the developers of Dorico add these small but very practical functions, which it is a shame that a powerful software like Dorico does not have.
