I am on Dorico 5.1.70.
I started from the solo piano template if I remember correctly.
I have a project with several flows. Some of them only have a single or a hand full of few instruments, others have a large orcherstra on them, and thus the systems overlap (or is staffs / staves the correct term?). See screen shot below. I’d like to reduce the system size (or pretty much everything) for those flows. How do I do this?
Here is what I already tried:
I’d like to change the System Size for the affected flows. I found out, that I can reduce rastral size and space size in the Layout Options → Page Setup but that affects ALL pages, and that is not what I want.
I found this post and inserted system breaks but scaling down in the properties does nothing. I placed a break on the first bar of the flow I want to scale and one on the first bar of the next flow. What am I doing wrong?
Hi, yes it is possible.
1.) Select your System break (the red signpost)
2.) down in the property panel change the staff size. You will have to enable (switch on) that property first, then change its value.
Hi @Chris_M, besides the useful suggestions above, you probably also considered the possibility of using condensing, to accommodate the many staves in one frame without needing to shrink the rastral size (space size) too much…?
yes, I did, thank you. But while condensing, I can not enter notes in the condensed group, can I? That’s why I only used it in the “final” layout, just before exporting.
A system is a vertical collection of one or more staves. In your example, everything from Piccolo to Double Bass is one system, comprised of 27 individual staves and two grand staves for the harp and piano. The most common singular form (and also what Dorico uses) is staff, but in the UK stave is used as well.
