Good morning, I’m here again to ask about a feature I can’t find.
I have a piece written in 4/4, but I realized that rewriting it in 4/2 would make it easier to read. I was wondering if there is a way to change the time signature and have the note values adjust automatically.
Let me clarify: imagine that in a 4/4 measure you have four half notes; when switching to 4/2, those notes should automatically become four whole notes.
I hope this makes sense. Thank you for the valuable help this community continues to provide to all new users of FINALE.
Changing the time signature (if it stays the same throughout the music) is a simple matter. Doubling the length of all notes may be more difficult if tuplets are involved.
Indeed, I’ve noticed that. When I try to double the note values, the system freezes, and I don’t understand why. Maybe I’m making a mistake in some step? It’s strange that there isn’t a way to update the note values automatically!
Why? A time signature only determines how the note durations are distributed between bars. It should never change the duration of individual notes themselves.
