How do I constrain the movement of a dynamic position to be just the one instrument? Now when I move a dynamic up it affects all the other dynamics in the same measure.

By default, when you enter dynamics simultaneously into several staves, the dynamics are linked and will move together. You can right-click them and choose Unlink, and then you can move them separately.

If you don’t like this behavior, you can go to Preferences > Note Input and Editing > Editing and untick the preference “Link dynamics and slurs to existing items when pasting”. (Despite the name, this preference is not just about pasting.)

Even though I unchecked “Link dynamics and slurs…” the dynamics still move together. And when I right-click (Control-Click in Mac) I don’t get the option to ungroup dynamics.

The menu item to ungroup dynamics is located in a submenu: Select the dynamic then right-click > Dynamics > Ungroup Dynamics

This preference affects what happens when you create dynamics. It does not unlink dynamics which have already been created.

Yes!! Thanks. As long as I continue to right-click in the sub-menu I get the option to ungroup.

Actually, I was able to ungroup the dynamics by right-clicking the dynamic and all though to the sub-menu

Grouping and linking are not the same thing – Dorico groups dynamics horizontally (in the same staff) and links them vertically (across staves). You want to unlink, not ungroup.

Thanks. It is all good now. I’m glad to have such expert advice.

My playback is not staccato any more since choosing Playback Template/Auto. Thanks.
