Whenever ever I use ‘Zoom to Selection’ the track height becomes very large - which is what I want - but it remains that way and I can’t get back to the track height I had before.

I am guessing the only way to deal with this is to set up a zoom preset or use the Undo Zoom command. But I would rather not have to execute another command if possible.
