Changing instruments for synth patches

Hi all,

I’m writing a part that would match a Mainstage file with the patches there. I’m trying to switch the synthesizer to a guitar patch while having the Dorico score sound like the patch or close to it. However, I’m having issues with this switch as changing to guitar deleted the bass clef (naturally) so I had to add an extra staff for the guitar, which separated the synth and guitar into two different parts instead of staying in one as a patch change.

How can I get Dorico to change the instrument with the title of the instrument shown and with playback without it separating like this or giving me extra work with the staves?

Hi @steinberg7, and welcome to the Forum.
I hope I understand your request.
Did you try to add the guitar instrument to the synth Player (instead of just changing it), clicking on the little + in the Player blue box .
You will so have a Player holding two instruments: the synth and the Guitar:

You can then make sure that Allow Instrument Changes is activated in Layout Options > Players > Instrument Changes for the desired layout/s. Then write your music in Galley view (where you see the staves separate for each instrument), and Dorico will take care of the changes and labelling in Page view, automatically (for the Playback sound of the synth, you can then change your synth sound in Play mode, as desired…):

Here the Manual:

If this is not what you need, please upload your Dorico project file, to see your current setup.

I have the same problem: I need to play a synthesizer with various orchestral sounds while maintaining the 2-hand writing typical of the keyboard instrument
