Changing note display

Hi all, more and more questions…

I have a lead sheet in 6/8. There will be a section of the sheet that is out of time. Like this:

I know how to hide stems and barlines. But how would I get the dotted quarter tied to an eighth in bar 9 to display as a half note here:

I could change the time signature and hide it, but there’s probably another way, right?

THanks!

Select the note
Press letter “o” (this turns on Force Duration)
Press 6 (this reduces it to a quarter note)
Press 7 (this makes it a half note)
Press letter “o” (this turns off Force Duration)

Thanks Steve. For some reason they key shortcuts don’t work, but when select the note durations in the left hand panel, it does.

Thanks!

Hi Geoff,
I did not have Dorico open when I posted my 4 steps.

Just now, I have opened a new project in Dorico to try them out to see why they might not be working for you. A step which I left out, and which I often forget when I use Force Duration, is to de-select the note after its duration has been forced. If this is not done, then Force Duration is turned off while the note is still selected and it will revert to its default appearance. Any commands invoked will act on whatever is selected at the time.

So, the (revised) steps should be:

Select the note
Press letter “o” (this turns on Force Duration)
Press 6 (this reduces it to a quarter note)
Press 7 (this makes it a half note)
De-select the note (ie click away from it or press an arrow key)
Press letter “o” (this turns off Force Duration)

The other way of inputting a half note in 6/8 is to turn on Force Duration before inputting the note.
