Note: This deals with a file that is imported from MXL

I have an 8th note at the beginning of measure filled with rests that follow.
When I click on the note and press 6 I get two eighths tied together rather than one quarter note.

What “vocabulary” am I missing here to simply turn the eight into a quarter note?

When you import a file from MusicXML, Dorico retains the durations of notes in the MusicXML file as if you had entered them with Force Duration switched on. To undo the effect of Force Duration, select the notes and choose Edit > Reset Appearance.
