When I add system text to a score, I want it to have a border with different padding on the L and the R, have a larger font, and have the distance from the staff be 4 spaces instead of 3. How do I make those changes to be the default when I add system text? I read the manual and searched online using AI and nothing I can find makes that happen.![]()
First, you need to define a Paragraph Style with the settings that you want.
If you look through the Write menu, you will see that there are menu items to add Staff Text or System Text in any of the available Paragraph Styles.
The key shortcuts Shift X and Shift Option X are set to add text in the Default Text paragraph style.
But there’s no reason why you can’t add more shortcuts to other Styles, or change the existing shortcut to a different style. (As long as that Style is saved as a default.)
Thank you benwiggy! I created a new paragraph style and named is “Scott’s System Text” and made the Parent “System Text”
I closed the Library Window (seeing that it was saved). Then I opened the Write menu, chose Create System Text and the Paragraph Style I created appears, but NONE of choices on the sub-menu to the right (as shown in your picture) are selectable. What am I missing?
So you already had a Para Style called “System Text”, and now you have “Scott’s System Text” based on it?
Have you made a valid selection in the score?
That did it. Thank you for your patience!
