Changing the notehead type for semi-chant

I have been futzing with notehead sets and every time I do it a default gets changed that I don’t want. Is there a way to accomplish this (note the highlighted area):

I wish to accomplish this by using eighth notes for the chant, removing stems, and changing the quarter at this point in the accompaniment to a half-note head for the chant. I cannot for the life of me understand how notehead sets work such that I can make this work.

My apologies in advance for being dense.

With noteheads I’m not sure, but it’s possible by using a tuplet (and hide the stem):

But of course.

I really appreciate this ‘hack’ but I’m really looking for an understanding of notehead sets. It may be that this is not what it is intended for, but I figured I’d use this as an opportunity to learn more about it.

Just to be certain, but you’ve seen this in the manual?

I’m not sure I completely understand it, but I think it’s as follows: The Sets are collections of the available noteheads. If you edit the standard black notehead, then that will affect every set that contains the black notehead.

So, you need to create a new Notehead Set, remove the black notehead, and then add the white notehead twice.

Maybe you’d like to create a notehead set that uses only half-note noteheads for all durations, so you can apply it anywhere.
