Channel strip pre or post inserts?

Is the channel strip in Mix Console post inserts, as the order of racks top to bottom would imply? Can it be switched pre inserts?

You can also change the position of the EQ within the strip, if both are being used.
Just open the channel editor and drag the EQ tab (in “Strip” mode) wherever you want it to be (default is post compressor, Pre Envelope shaper)

why is there a fixed postion for the strip before or after the inserst anyway?
It would be great to place the strip in between the inserts, too!
