Chant verses lyric question

New Dorico user (Finale since 1990!)
Is this possible in Dorico with lyrics, for long verses in chant notation?
I figured out multiple words under one note and justification, but don’t see how I can offset the second line.

I’m just a few days in, I’ll be asking a ton of questions as I relearn 30 years of daily Finale use.

Use stanza (verse) 2 (with appropriate spacing) for the second line.

Note that you can change the verse number of an existing lyric just by selecting it and changing the Line number in the Properties panel.

Thanks for the replies. I already figured out changing verses, I just can’t seem to find a way to indent the second line.

You could create a new Paragraph Style with an Indent setting, and then apply that style to the selected lyric. (Indenting doesn’t affect Centred lyrics; only Left/right justified.)

… or you could just add some hard spaces to the lyric.

Thanks! Getting close to what I need. I made a new Paragraph Style, which works well.

2 things have me stuck.

  1. Can I change the line spacing of lyrics to tighten up a bit
  2. Can I hide that odd rest at the beginning of top staff organ? I learned that I can select the C that is slurred and select start voice, and this hid the rest on a vocal line, but for some reason won’t allow it on the organ staff.

You can change the distances between lines of lyrics by adjusting Distance between adjacent lines of lyrics on the Lyrics page of Engraving Options.

To hide a rest, select it and choose Edit > Remove Rest. (You can assign a keyboard shortcut to this if it’s something you think you will be using often.)

You can also move lyrics rhythmically – the key command Ctrl/Cmd-Alt/Opt-arrows should nudge lyrics by the rhythmic grid (at least a bit).
