Choir condensing and lyrics

Hi there!

I’m trying to keep the piano vocal score identical to its original version. The composer frequently condenses the SAs and TBs together. Is there a way I can fix these overlapping lyrics? (See image below). Thanks!

Yes, condensing for vocal lines isn’t really perfected yet. I’d recommend just using different staves and instruments on different systems, and using two voices on one staff. After all, you don’t need separate part layouts for each staff.

Alternatively, just remove the lyrics from one of the staves.

Remember that you’re producing a score for the performer, not the composer! So if an extra page makes it clearer, with fewer layout changes, then that’s a better result. (And you’re working to the nearest four pages.)

Also, is there any reason you’ve made the time signatures slightly larger than normal?

Thanks, yeah I figured just omitting the lyrics from one of the parts would do the trick but wanted to make sure there wasn’t something I was missing. I actually like the condensing, it perfects what the initial pv score of the composers looks like.

As far as the large time signatures; its a holdover from my house style for parts (I may adjust it different for the pv score). In contemporary spaces where musicians have a day or two to rehearse before performance, I’ve found that bigger time sigs helps keep mistakes at bay. Thanks!

Hi, theoretically it might help.
If I look at your screenshot example though, the size actually obscures the visibility of the time signatures. Perhaps they need to be even bigger, or just the “default” size.

Thanks, I did beef them up a bit and I’m happy with the end result.
