Choosing which Cubase edition to start

Hi! I have multiple editions of cubase and on my laptop I want to run elements. However, the installer is identical to Cubase 14 pro and hwnever I launch Cubase it starts pro. I can then manually deactivate pro (strangely cubase appears to only check at startup), and after restarting it sometimes starts the AI edition. The next time I start it will be pro again.
Very frustrating - how do I select which version of Cubase to launch?

It should start based on the license available…if you want to start a version lower than your license then hold alt when you open it.

I have both available in the license manager and hence the problem. It reverts back to the highest version I have in my account at every start. Holding down alt worked - thank you!

Is there a way to make this the selection standard by changing the shortcut or something?

The other workaround is to turn off “Automatic License Management” as it then won’t try to activating pro (but may cause other activation issues down the line maybe?).

btw, if others are reading: alt-clicking the icon doesn’t work but uou shoudl rather hold down alt after clicking.

Sure you could do that with something like autohotkey. But not without a third party solution as far as I’m aware.

May I ask why you don’t want to launch the Pro version? It is downward compatible and there’s not much of a difference (if there’s a difference at all) when it comes to system requirements or CPU strain.

Are you collaborating with someone else? Do you want to avoid to use features that this someone can’t open with their Elements version?
Just asking, maybe you don’t need Elements after all?
