Choppy video playback?

Hi,

I’m trying to use the video feature in VST Live for my live show, but the playback is extremely choppy - it looks like around 10 FPS or even worse.

I tested multiple videos with different settings to rule out encoding issues. I tried:

  • Different resolutions (4K, 1080p, 720p)

  • Different codecs and formats (H.264, H.265, ProRes, MP4, MOV)

  • Different bitrates and export settings

No matter what I try, the playback inside VST Live remains very choppy and unusable for live visuals.
This also happens on an empty project.

The videos play perfectly smooth in other software and players on the same machine, so it doesn’t seem like a hardware limitation.

Is there a recommended format or workflow for video playback in VST Live? Or is there something specific that needs to be configured in the project?

Thanks.

Hmmm, Thats interesting. Just a possible solution: can you try go to:
Preferences / Video / Multi core porocessing

Is it better now? If not, let us know the version you use

It’s enabled, if I turned that off it would be even worse.

I’ve used 3.0.20, updated to 3.0.24 but no change.

I also tried it in VST Live 2, which gives a bit more frames (still not smooth), but has a weird green bar at the bottom.

could you send us one video (snippet) that plays jerky, thanks!

We found a cause for jerky video playback, will be fixed with the next version.
