Chord diagram collision with staves

When entering chord diagrams into a score, they frequently collide with the stave above. What can I do to avoid this? I know I can manually adjust the position, but it is a pain to do so . . .

is putting the bar numbers below the staff an option?

I could do that, though in my group we normally put them on top.

Worth a try, I’m sure that will help.

Chris, you could also Reset the Layout instead.

Dorico should normally leave enough room. Are you forcing a greater number of systems onto the page than Dorico is expecting, e.g. using system/frame breaks, or using fixed casting off settings on the Staves and Systems page of Layout Options?

This has been an ongoing problem since starting with Dorico a couple of months ago (I migrated from Sibelius).

I thought it might the case that forcing system breaks would possibly cause the layout problems, so in the score I’m working with now – I did NOT place any system/frame breaks.

I will have to look at the “fixed casting off” settings – I don’t think I changed that but will have check it out. (I don’t really know what the term means anyway.)

And will look up what Reset the Layout does . . .

Many thanks for the suggestions.

If you attach the project here, we can take a look and see if there’s another setting you might change.

Thanks for attaching the project. I think it’s the combination of bar numbers on every bar, chord symbols with chord diagrams, and rehearsal marks that is causing Dorico to have a hard time laying out the page in a pleasing fashion vertically.

In this kind of part layout, I’d recommend going to the Vertical Spacing page of Layout Options and deactivating the option under Minimum Gaps that causes Dorico to automatically perform collision avoidance between adjacent staves and systems: Dorico will then lay the staves out at their default vertical positions in the frame. Increase the Inter-system gap value to e.g. 16 spaces, and I think you’ll be left with a more pleasing appearance.

Thank you very much!

Yes, those actions allow appropriate spacing. Much better!
