Chord Inputting query

Hi,

Newbie here. I am making up another lead sheet, I want to enter the chord of Ab/C addEb. when i enter [Shift Q] the chord as Ab/CaddEb it only gives me Ab/C. If I enter Ab/C and spacebar, it exits out of the chord dialog and gives me Ab/C. i did manage to get Eb(addBb) to work, so not sure what I am doing wrong.

thanks

If you want it like this, enter Ab|CaddEb. Ab|C=Poly chord, Ab/C=Altered bass note.

You can get this under Library→Engraving Options→Chord Symbols→Poly chords

I did enter Ab/CaddEb but it only showed Ab/C. Maybe there is not enough room to output the whole chord until the next one?

A vertical bar, not a slash | vs /

Jesper

ok. Missed that. Thanks. So used to the slashes for chords

If I want to only have to play the bass note of the chord [lead sheet], how do i do this? I tried Ebbassbut it didn’t work

There’s a property, Hide root and quality. Is that what you mean? Can you show me an example?

Jesper

I want to signify that only the root note of the chord is to be played [i.e Eb RootNote Only]

I think you have to create your own chord symbol. Here’s an example. I added No root under Library→Chord Symbols. Popover text set to ro, so you enter cro for C root only. You can edit to taste, and press the star icon at the lower left to save as default.

I am in dorico 5. I think I’ll just use text for now. I don’t need playback

thanks

Ah, don’t remember if you could do that in D5.

Jesper

i think they improved that function in d6.

Indeed they did. Just tried to open the file in D5, no show. Using text is a good alternative, or a playing technique.

Jesper

I added the text and manually adjusted the space between the slash notes so that the chord text would fit. Thanks for your help. Appreciate it

De nada.
