Chord pads and voicings

I played a bit with the chords pads to day but I could not find out how to keep control of the voicings.

I set up the chord pads like this:

Automatic voicing with reference chord C9.
Chords used: C9, Dmin7/9, F9, G7/9, Amin9, Fmaj7/9, Cmaj7/9, G7/9

Recording some chords to a MIDI track produces the following:

Recording the same chords to an instrument track (Halion Sonic 2) leads to this result:

Dragging the chords from the chord pads to a chord track results in the following voicings:

I am sure that there are lot of intelligent algorithms behind this, but I simply lose control here. In my eyes the voicing of chord should not change depending on the type of track I record it to…

Can anybody shed some light on this?

I think you set most or all all pads to adaptive voicing, which can change the actual chord on a pad depending on the previous chord played/ touched. I suggest you set all chords first as ‘locked’ prior to dragging/ playing the pads to different tracks…

Hope this helps

Thanks for your response. It’s always the same chord progression so this could only explain differences in the first chord and this one is set to be reference for adaptive chord voicing (so I would not expect any differences here either). Furthermore I am always getting the same voicings when recording to the same target track.

I double-checked that automatic voicing for the chord track is disabled (this might alter the chords) and that the target tracks do not follow the chord track in any way.

I will check the behaviour with the chords pads set to ‘locked’ and let you know what happens…

Finally i got it. The player settings are track specific! Using the same player settings each track results in the same voicings. The chords track does not seem to be integrated in this concept. Dragging from the chord pads seems to just copy the chords but not the notes that are actually played.

Glad you got that sorted out!

Good stuff!
