Chord placement below bass clef in piano/choral piece

In using the Chord tool I am trying to get the chord to appear BELOW the Piano Bass Stave in a choral piece. I am following all protocols — adjusting my settings in Engraving (Chord Symbols) and and Properties — but still cannot get the chord symbol to appear below the bass clef in the piano part. Anyone have a solution?

Hi,
There’s no automatic way. Try this:

Layout Options > Chord Symbols and Diagrams

Search for “position of chord symbols on double-staff instruments” and select “between staves.”

Now go to Engraving Options > Chord Symbols

Vertical Position
Ideal distance above or below the staff: select a negative value (e.g., -8).

Distance above elements protruding from the line (-8)

If you set the layout option>chord position between grand staff you can then just use the placement property to move them below the lower stave.

does this also apply to the piano?

Yes. A piano is a grand staff instrument (It has two staves).

Thank you Janus!

Your solution is much simpler than mine!

Many thanks for the responses. I had tried Janus’s solution before posting. Italy’s method did the trick, except I boosted the vertical position to -18 which brought it to a comfortable position in the score (and below the bass clef). Thanks again. Perhaps in a new Dorico version a user can just click on the chord symbol and drag it to the desired position.

You can do this in engrave mode. Select a chord symbol and drag it wherever you want.
