Chord Symbol Button

HI all, I’m new to Dorico after decades using Finale. I’m seeing some advantages Dorico has to offer and appreciate that, at the same time there are basic concepts of working with Dorico that completely scramble my brains (working with rests and tied notes to name a couple)!

The videos I’ve watched on inputting chord symbols go into everything that can be done with chord symbols in Dorico but seem to lack the basics of finding the chord symbol button and or keeping the chord symbol input text box open for chord after chord input.

One video says there should be a chord symbol button on the right margin but there’s not. Other videos instruct to use shift Q to open the chord symbol dialog. That works but do you really have to click a note then shift Q every time to enter chord symbols?

Hopefully there’s a quicker less finger intensive way of dealing with chord symbols, If so please let me know.

Thanks

You can advance the Chord popover using the space bar or Tab or Alt-arrow. There’s no need to use Enter, which will close the popover.

Here’s the relevant page in the manual (see #5):

Great thanks, that helps!

I’m still not sure where the chord symbol button that’s suppose to be on the right margin is?

Another quick question. Chord symbols are not showing when I input them on the bass part. Where do I go to make them show up?

It’s here…

Got it thanks

Thanks, it took me awhile to find the “action bar”.

It’s odd though, show chords for “rhythm section instruments” is checked but no chords show on the Bass staff of my score. They do show if I check “all instruments”.

That means all instruments held by that player. Like Flute + piccolo.

Are you sure that you have a double bass stringed instrument selected, and not, for example a bass singer?

In addition to @YourMusic.Pro :

you can check that by selecting the instrument and click on “Edit instrument Definition …”

In the Staves and Clefs section there is a checkbox which shows if the instrument is part of the Rhythm Section (or you can add it to that section)

Thanks, I reset the bass part under change instrument to “fretted Electric Bass Guitar” then edited the name to “Bass” and Chord Symbols now show.

Where ever I went the first time around, I remember it just saying Bass Guitar (not “Fretted Electric Bass Guitar”. I edited the name to Bass from there. That, for whatever reason, did not work.

(See correction in my post below the part was originally set to “Upright Bass”.)

Thanks for the screen shots.

From @TonH screen shots, I found that my part was set to “Upright Bass” which for some reason does not show chord changes when rhythm section instruments is checked.
