In Musescore the chord symbol play “as you type” when you advance to the next beat/bar. In Dorico, I have chord symbol playback enabled, and it works for traditional playback, but I don’t hear the chord while inputting chord symbols. Is there a solution for this?
Can one assume you are entering the chord symbols by playing the chords on a MIDI keyboard, or are you typing the chord symbols into a popover?

Yes. That is how it works in Musescore
Dorico doesn’t provide this as an option at the moment, I’m afraid.
