Chord symbols in second time only jazz charts

I have a solo section in a big band chart where the second time only is the ensemble supposed to play short chorus figures. If I set it such that that chord symbols should only be visible in slash regions, it removes the chord symbols from their parts in the measure that they have specifically written notes. It is tricky because if I do the opposite, then in measures where they are legit resting, they are treated as valid measures and not turned into multi-bar rests. Is there a way to do this?

I also found these previous discussions:

Welcome to the forum, @theflutepursuit!

I’m having a bit of trouble understanding what you’re trying to achieve and what exactly the trouble is. Do I understand correctly that the problem is the 2nd X backgrounds getting covered over by slashes? Are you using slash regions or chord symbol regions without success? (Apologies for any glaring gap in my comprehension.)

Any chance you could share your project file here as well as an annotated screenshot of what you want things to look like?

mmm. not too sure, I’m seeing something different:

Here is a screen shot of where I’d like a rest to be in one of the parts

Sorry I did not answer your question! I wrote the soli and then added slashes where they were not playing. The idea is that soloing is supposed to happen in a trading fours situation, if that makes sense.

Since this is the bridge of the tune and there’s no D.S., the second-time issue isn’t a factor here. So if I understand, the problem is that in all saxes but Alto 1 and Tbn. (btw, do you mean to have Alto 3 above Alto 2?) you seeing the chord symbols where you don’t want to, and (therefore) not getting multi-measure rests?

All my undoing trying to figure it out probably reset the order of the isntruments  I duplicated some parts to revamp this arrangement.

I want each part to see the chord symbols in mm. 49-80. Everywhere else, such as mm. 19-21, they should have multi-bar rests.

In Setup Mode, change each part on which you don’t want chords to show in measures with rests from “Show for All Instruments” to “Show in Chord Symbol and Slash Regions”. This will give you the multi-bar rests.

Yes, when I tried it, this is what I saw. But, I’d like the chords present even in the measures where there are no slashes.

Create Chord Symbol Regions (Write Menu, down near the bottom) and they’ll display.

Amazing. Thank you! That worked.
