Chord track pattern not working on playback

I’m stuck with playing a chord pattern. I’ve tried several methods of getting chords in (no cutting and pasting). I open Player Mode and select pattern and a preset. The chord pad will play the preset. But when I set Cubase (14 Pro updated to 14.0.40) to play I just get the chord notes once. I’ve tried it on a different PC and a laptop (3 in total all Windows 11) and I just can’t get the pattern to play. Hopefully someone can tell me where I’m going wrong. I have attached a screen record of it. Thanks

You have the Chord Track muted and it’s assigned to Sonic 02 (not 03–the armed track). It’s just going to play the chords you have on the track as written–not the using the player style you’ve selected. Put those chords on the chord track, unmute it, and change it Sonic 03. That should work.

Thanks - but those weren’t the tracks I was trying to play hence being muted. It was 14 which simply had some chords dropped into it. I’d given up on those and simply created a new track (14) and dragged new test chords into it. I’ve updated again though and created another piano track (8) and set the chord track to trigger it. Same problem- the chord pad works. But when I press play there’s no pattern played. (This time I haven’t copied the chords to the track). I’ve tried it multiple ways round and searched every video I can find! New screen video attached.

Thanks

If you drag that Cmin7/9 to the chord track, it doesn’t play it with the player style?

Hi XLColdJ - thanks for looking again. Yes it doesn’t play in the pattern.

I’ve just created a new blank project and done the attached video. You can see I’ve got the chord track monitoring HalionSonic. I drag a chord over to the track. When I play I just get the notes once per chord. If I change the Pattern still no effect - just the plain notes at the beginning of the bar.

It’s the same problem if I drag chords to an instrument track and don’t use a chord track.

I’ve been trying to sort this for days - last time I worked with a DAW was 26 years ago and it’s moved on so much. Everything else I’ve sorted by the many great videos available but I just can’t see why this one doesn’t work.

Hopefully you can think of something else but I’ve tried everything. I can replicate the problem on all 3 Windows 11 devices that I use.

Many thanks for your help

I should also add that the chord pads do work - they just weren’t turned on in the previous clip. See this clip - which shows the patterns playing under the chord pads but not when the piece is played. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I note that there have been many views but no one has come up with an answer - so I’ve asked Technical Support.

And the answer is simple - Cubase 14 Pro isn’t designed to do it - hence it doesn’t.

The chord patterns are for performance. The work around is to record them.

Tech support sent a link to a video - Cubase Skills: Getting Chord Pad Patterns into your Project which explains further.

It’s a shame as I was simply looking for an easy way to make backing tracks to accompany solo sax.

I don’t know whether Cubase 15 can do it but have asked.

Chris

Further note from Tech Support. Cubase 15 doesn’t play the pattern either. They’ve added it to the wish list for future development. So it may become available in the future.
