I am new to Dorico from Finale. In adding chord names to an inherited project, sometimes the chord letter is running into the stave above. How do I adjust the spacing between them? I have Dorico Pro 5.
From conversations on another of my questions, I found Library - Layout Options - Engraving Options - Chord Symbols - Vertical Position. But when I adjust the ideal distance and click Apply, the chord symbols do not move in relation to the staves. Why can’t I get these symbols to move down? The screen shot is from Page View.
Are you sure they are chord symbols in Dorico? If you select one of them, does it say “Chord symbol” in the bottom status bar?
No - attached is what they say. So all “chord symbols” are in this way for the whole hymnal (106 songs!?). How do I get this to move? Or how do you get the chord symbol box instead of this?
You have Engraving Options / Chord Symbols / Align chord symbols across width of system selected:
So Dorico is going to avoid the collision between that first Bb chord and the slur and then align all the others with that Bb chord.
Personally, I would leave that setting in place, then drag-select or Filter for the chords starting with the C in the 2nd bar and Cmd+Opt+Arrow them all down at once. You clearly don’t have enough room on that page though. You’ll either need to reduce the rastral size, bump a system to the next page, reduce other white space, etc. in order to avoid a collision with the F and Bb and the staff above.
