Hi all. I have noticed that in a Classical Guitar piece, Dorico 5 Pro forgets that the fingerings are for classica guitar. At first it works well, I have no problem entering fingerings for both right hand and left hand switching to L and R with the arrow keys. This is also when I can add slide-ins, for example. Eventually, all this disappears and when I enter other fingerings I don’t get the option to move from R to L and the slide-in option also disappears. I have tested several bran new projects for classical guitar and it seems to be a consistent issue. It is as if Dorico 5 forgets that we are talking about guitar and applies generic fingerings (perhaps piano?). Thank you for your help.
Welcome to the forum.
I can’t recall anyone mentioning this before. Could you upload a project that exhibits the problem?
Long shifts.dorico (1.1 MB)
Thank you for getting back to me! This file, for example, as far as I can tell. It is still for guitar, it started with being able to enter guitar fingerings (with both L and R hand options). Now, with Shift+F, I get the 5 over the quarter note symbol (no guitar options).
That is very curious.
If I copy across to a new project, the guitar fingering returns. But if I create a new fretted instrument in the original project - there is no guitar fingering there either…
There may be a setting that is causing this (I’m no expert in this area)… but perhaps @dspreadbury can shed some light?
I believe the issue is that you’ve deactivated Allow left-hand fingerings inside the staff for fretted instruments in the Advanced Options section of the Design section of the Fingering page in Engraving Options.
Thank you. I did deactivate the Allow left-hand fingerings inside the staff for fretted instruments. I did that intentionally. Is that supposed to make the guitar fingerings disappear? It seems like there should be a way to have left hand fingerings outside of the staff for guitar. No?
Thank you @dspreadbury for pointing me in the right direction. It does seem that Allowing left-hand fingerings inside the staff for fretted instruments brings back the guitar fingerings options. However, is anybody aware of a way to have both? Allowing left-hand fingerings inside the staff changes the spacing quite a bit. Thank you so much!
