Cleaning old Dorico versions files

Hello fellow Dorico users,

I have noticed that in my PC there are a few old Dorico version folders from version 2 onward still present.

For example in C:\ProgramData\Steinberg there are, as you can see in the below screenshot, four folders dating back to version 2.

Program Data - Steinberg 1

In each of the above folders there are three sub folders called: DefaultLibraryAdditions, PlaybackTemplateGenerators, PluginPresetLibraries

Program Data - Steinberg 2

  • Inside the DefaultLibraryAdditions there are two NotePerfomer files called NotePerformer Expression Maps.doricolib and NotePerformer Percussion Maps.doricolib
  • Inside the PlaybackTemplateGenerators there are two NP files called playbacktemplatedeps.doricolib and playbacktemplategen.xml
  • Inside the PluginPresetLibraries there are two NP files called presets.xml and presets_for_instruments.xml

In the Dorico 5 folder those three subfolders are not present and it is completely empty.

I would like to ask if those folders from Dorico 2 to Dorico 4 are safe to be deleted.

Similarly, in C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\Steinberg the two folders named Dorico 4 and Dorico 4 AudioEngine_64 respectively can safely be deleted.

AppData - Roaming - Steinberg 1

Thanks a lot in advance for any feedback and confirmation that deleting all those folders is OK.

Best regards to all,
Max

If you don’t have Dorico versions 2 to 4, then yes.

I think NotePerformer installs its playback Templates and other files there. It covers all bases.

(Of course, because you have a backup, you can delete anything without fear!)

Thanks a lot Ben for your kind reply and confirmation.

I was actually surprised to notice that the Dorico 5 folder is empty and no sub folders are present like for the other Dorico versions.

Concerning the other files I mentioned in C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\Steinberg the two folders named Dorico 4 and Dorico 4 AudioEngine_64 respectively can those be safely deleted do you think?

I basically only have Dorico 5 installed in my PC. In any case I have a full OS image backup in case something has to be restored.

Many thanks, Max

You can delete anything inside the user-specific application data folders and Dorico will still operate just fine. However, beware that all of your user-specific customizations for Dorico live in that area, so be careful not to delete the folders that relate to the current version of Dorico.

Thanks a lot Daniel for your kind reply!

Best, Max
