Clef and Transposition override - not working?

Hello,
Somehow I don’t get my duplicate layout to show in a different clef.
My original Full Score is notated in French violin clef.
Now I duplicated this layout, gave it a different name and did a “Clef and Transposition override…”.
Problem, it does not work. I would like to have the duplicate score layout to show the Italian (regular) Violin clef.
Still, nothing changes.
I might misunderstand something here…

Any help welcome.

If you select the clef in this layout, does it turn orange? If so, try to delete it.

Yes, it does. And when I delete it, I‘ll see the standard violin clef. I know that I specifically put the French Violin clef onto that system before copying the original. I would like to keep that French violin clef.
These two layouts are both Scores. If I delete or change a key in one layout, doesn’t it wreck the original one, too?

How did you do your layout with the violin to use the French violin clef? If you go to setup and select > next to the violin, then click on the … for the instrument, then select Edit Instrument Definition… , you will see the heading for Staves and Clefs and the sub-heading Clefs. Both pull down menus there have options for what kind of clef to show. French violin clef is included as well as Treble clef. You can switch to whichever one you want and the music will update without the need to “transpose” anything.

Thank you for your suggestion.
One learns something new every day.
Does this instrument change only apply to this very project? This would be a feature I haven’t used so far. I don’t want to change my instrument definition for future projects. Meaning, the next time I use a violin, it should still use a standard clef.

I believe that, if you use a template, you can change the instrument in Setup Mode, without changing the default instrument in the template; the change should be local to your project. The same would hold true for building the ensemble from scratch. There are ways, I’m sure, that you can change the default instrument definition but I wouldn’t advise that! And you can create new instruments as well.

Yes, it does.

Note that the underlying issue is that a Clef and Transposition Override will not override a clef which is set manually in the score, only the default clef for that instrument.
