Clip Gain WL 14

Hi,

Is there a way to switch the clip gain display from centimal to decimal in WaveLab 13?

I find the current behavior very frustrating !

Your request is not very clear. Could you be more precise?

thank you for your answer.

On previous version the clip gain was ajustable every decimal : +/-0.1 dB, now it’s Centimal (+/-0.01dB).

It’s almost impossible to have round values : +1, +1.5dB, etc …

Is it possible to change that ?

Thanks

I don’t know what previous version you mean, but this is like this for at least ten years.

Anyway, you can use the mouse wheel either on the value digits or on the slider for faster changes. And of course you can type values.

This is the gain I am talking about : The enveloppe Volume

Thanks

The change was made because many users complained about the previous inaccuracy.
To change the clip level, you could consider using the new pop-up sliders at the bottom corners of the clips.

To be precise, in WaveLab 12 (and I assume also some prior versions) the displayed value is just rounded up or down to one decimal place, while the actual value can be more complex.

See this screenshot from WaveLab 12 Pro with 4 copies of a clip and 4 different envelope settings:

The first envelope was drawn up by hand barely after it changed from +1.4 to +1.5.
The second envelope was precisely entered as +1.5 dB via the Automation/Envelope section in the Inspector window.
The third envelope was also drawn by hand just before it would pass from +1.5 to +1.6.
The fourth envelope was again entered via the Inspector, left point as +1.45 and right point as +1.55.

Whichever envelope or point I hover over with my mouse cursor it shows +1.5 dB, even the Inspector shows just the rounded value. But you can clearly see the slight stepping between the envelopes and also the varying waveform changes.

Depending on what you do this might be an issue, if you do not pay attention, as minor as it seems. With WaveLab 13 now having 2 decimal places when displaying the values it offers way more precision.
If you don’t need that precision and just want to have “smooth” numbers as they look “better”, I can relate, but sometimes you have to let go.

@PG1 By the way, I noticed that in WaveLab 13 (13.0.10 Pro) the shown Value for the Volume/Fades envelope within the Automation/Envelope section of the Inspector is still following the WaveLab 12 logic (rounding rules and showing only 1 decimal place). Could this be updated to also show 2 decimal places?

Good remark. I will change it for WaveLab 13.0.20

Hi, thank you for the answer.

I totally understand why this change is made for, but it is almost impossible to get round values.

My sessions from WL 12 with envelop volume at +1db for ex are now at +1.02 or +0.97.

This is quite frustrating, I am not the only in this case, is it possible to ad an option in the setting to change that more or less acurency please ?

That would be fantastic

Best regards

May be PG can consider round values by default (reduce 2 digits to 1 or as 1.10 1.20 etc.)

There is a simple solution to get rounded values. And probably better than in the past:
Use the new slow-motion edit mode. That is, press Shift, then move the mouse up and down to change the envelope.

Thank you PG !

That would be fantastic actually, make more sense to me
