Closing In (2670)

Here’s something just completed over the last couple of weeks. It’s a combination of real guitars and basses, plus things from Groove Agent and Halion from Cubase 14. I’d done an earlier and less polished version of this many years ago using a much earlier edition of Cubase, and that’s still up on an old Soundcloud page, but what’s heard here was all recorded and completed in December 2025.

If anyone’s interested in the genesis of the song, it all started with the 6 string bass part that runs from about 30 seconds in up to the start of the solos at around 1:30. Everything else was written around that basic part. The solo bass part is played on a Fender Jazz fretless. The 3 different basses and 4 different guitars all were played through the Line 6 Helix Native plug-in.

Hoping of course, that anyone giving this a listen will enjoy it and weigh in with any impressions or suggestions.

Hi John. Gave it a couple of listens. Sounds great. Hangs together very well. What does the title mean? The guitar solo about halfway through sounds a bit harsh; you could soften that up a little so it’s not so in-your-face, just a suggestion.

Hi Leon,

Thanks for listening, and weighing in. I’ll re-listen to that guitar. It seemed okay to me on previous listens, but now with this in my head, I’ll check again.

As for the title, it was the idea that I’d always heard movement in this song as I listened to it, as if someone was approaching a place or some other kind of destination. The numbers were a recent addition to the title for our present calendar year that was rapidly approaching as I finished the recording, and for the start of a new decade for me that hits with my birthday in June! Yes, I am that old…
