I am having a problem with collisions that I don’t quite understand - can anyone point me in the right direction. I have a reasonably congested full orchestral score. Slurs, hairpins, and dynamic marks frequently collide, even though there seems to space for them. But when I try to move them into clear space in Engrave mode, everything shifts - staff spacing for example - so that they collide again. What am I doing wrong?
Peter,
it might be possible that you have too many too big staves on a page layout that is too small.
Best to check - before manually shifting things around: how does Dorico present your music based on your settings (Layout Options)?
If (in Engrave Mode) you see that your page or your systems are overfull (over 100%): don’t start shifting! instead start changing the Layout options, like Staff (Rastral) size, Page size, Page margins; and have a look again. The aim is a perfect layout without manual overrides.
ps. make sure you have “Signposts” set to “visible”
hi, OK thanks - that makes perfect sense. I knew Staff size was critical, but I clearly underestimated the knock-on effects, when things looked pretty much ok to the eye. I have now reduced the Rastral size so that there is no page filled over 100%. That does seem to have resolved some things. I have moved stuff around though: is it possible to redeem that without making things worse? Thanks so much!
Hiya,
Good if you can see progress.
There is an unspoken rule, if you have to do many manual adjustments - or if you feel you have to do them: instead try to adjust Layout Options. As an example Vertical Spacing>Inter-system gap
Little adjustments here can bring about wonders..
