In score editor there was a color option to color individual notes. The button is no longer in the tool bar and it isn’t available in the toolbar setup. This is not to be confused with track coloring which is available.
thanks
I do not believe you can manually change the color of individual notes at the moment. However, there is a special notehead set included called “Figurenotes” which has preconfigured colors for each pitch. Applying this to the notes will give them these colors.
To apply this, select the notes, then go to “Score” menu->“Noteheads”->“Pitched”->“Figurenotes Noteheads”
You end up getting something like this:
The colors that it uses for the notes are based on their letter-names:
Okay, that’s helpful but it looks like with the upgrade to Cubase 14, we lose the ability to color or highlight a melody or a set of notes. (Historically, I used this to mark different motives, which is useful if you’re writing anything coutrapuntal.) I guess my next step is to complain to Steinberg?
It is a brand new notation engine in Cubase 14 based on Dorico. They were quite clear that the initial release of the new notation engine in Cubase 14 would not have all the features of the old notation engine from Cubase 13 and earlier versions.
You can colour notes in this way in Dorico, but I’m not sure if they will bring that capability to Cubase - it depends on how many people need it.
I sent Steinberg an email telling them that I would appreciate it if they brought back the ability to color individual notes. Hopefully others will also request this feature.
You might want to add the “feature request” tag to your original post here, and give it a vote (they look at the votes in terms of what features to prioritize).
We’ve got this on our roadmap, but I can’t make any promises as to when this gets prioritized.
We aim to read every forum post, and will consider how features requests fit into our roadmap and vision of the product regardless of “votes” or feature request tags. It’s certainly always interesting to hear which functionality works well for our users, or which things are missing for specific workflows.
@Erlmanov, in the meantime, you also have the option to export any project to Dorico, and tweak the score with the tools available there.
Thanks for the update.
