Combining xml and fav house style

Hi there!

I have exported a sibelius file of my big band composition, and was looking for a fast way to import that in Dorico and make it in exactly the “house style” I made. It’s a lot of work to alter Music Fonts, Paragraph styles, Font Styles, Chord Symbols, Title page and other Lay-out and Engraving things. What’s the best, fastest way to accomplish this?

Additional question: my musicxml-file contains chord symbols, but they are plain text, no dorico chords. How do I change them to dorico-chords?

Meanwhile I create always a new file from an appropriate template, set up the bar/time signature/key signature scheme and copy and paste the music.

This seems to be tedious, but from my experience it takes (much) less time than checking and changing all document settings and even assigning all instruments.

Regarding the chord symbols: If they are not recognized as chord symbols you have to re-enter them, sorry. Maybe there is an export setting on the Sibelius side.

Thanks, gonna try that! Another question: how do I get a 4 after trumpet in Bb?

Once you have one Dorico document with everything set up as you want it, then it’s easy to use that as a template for new files. You can import the music of any Flow from any Dorico file into the current document, and the incoming music will be ‘poured’ into the document using the Layout Options.

You can also import any settings from one document to another using the Library Manager.

Check the spelling of the instruments, they must be exactly the same. A leading or trailing space character can already break the numbering.

I checked, doublechecked and triplechecked, the spelling is exactly the same.It turned out to be that I accidentally added a section player.

Ah, that makes sense, could be trumpet 4-16

Good catch!
