Comparing scores

I have often used the Compare feature of Sibelius, which allows comparison of two open scores, which are different versions of the same piece, to discover the differences. In Dorico, I can open 2 scores, but there seems to be no way of comparing them, or am I missing something?

If this is not possible now, might it become available in the future?

Thanks!

There is currently no way to do this in Dorico.

  • You could use the Library Manager to compare the settings in the two files, but this doesn’t compare the content.
  • You could export both files as MusicXML and compare those with a diff program, but there will be lots of noise, and it won’t be as immediately useful as showing you the differences musically.

With Dorico, as of 5.1.70, you cannot compare two files musical content. But you can use the library manager to compare their different options settings, that’s already something!

Tag your topic with the ‘feature-request’ tag. I believe that Steinberg takes note of all such and considers the relative merit fairly. It is impressive how may user feature-requests they implement over time.

Thanks for the help and suggestion. I do think this would be a good feature for the developers to add. Sibelius has a more sophisticated system for saving and comparing old versions, but I never use it. The minimalist feature of comparing scores is sometimes a major time-saver.
