Comping to a clean empty track lane

Hello, It would be nice to be able to comp takes into a clean empty lane instead of going over the top of the the selected take. Fender Studio does this for example. If you have 5 layers you can create a sixth layer where you can composite your final take. It makes the process cleaner.

Can you describe what you mean by this (perhaps a pic might help)?

On my system Cubase always maintains an empty Lane below the Lanes with recordings on them. And you can also drag Audio onto a different Lane including this empty one. Wouldn’t this let you do what you want.

I’m not sure if I’ve understood correctly, but I make extensive use of track versions (on the same track, that is). Once the comping process is finished, I duplicate the version and then render the audio of that duplicate into a single audio file.

This workflow is useful for preserving the edit history, and I often use it across multiple editing steps.

I hope this helps address the point of your question.
