When I insert a mono compressor, a Waves CLA-2A mono; onto a mono vocal track the gain control also becomes a panner… Low gain is all in the left channel and it pans over to the right as I increase the gain. Obviously I am doing something wrong here, maybe my setup, but I can’t find a way to fix it.
Sounds like you’re inserting a mono plug-in into a stereo track. Check the logo on the ‘mono’ track - I’ll bet it has two circles…

Indeed, when a Mono plug-in is inserted into a Stereo track, by the default only the left channel is processed. You can simply use the stereo version of the plug-in instead.
