Concerns about Steinberg Licensing

We have certainly considered it, but we have decided not to pursue this, at least for now, on the grounds that it would be hard to prevent such a USB drive from being trivially duplicated, thus defeating the purpose of being able to be use this system to provide some measure of enforcement of the license agreement.

If you have had cause to be in touch with our support team to troubleshoot or solve a licensing problem, I hope you have always found them to be helpful and not obstructive. I hope that will continue to be the case should you have the misfortune to require help in recovering from an unexpected system failure in the future – please be assured that they will be there if you need them.

That’s interesting, what is it that prevented the current dongle from being virtually duplicated? Because I created a thread here:

Suggesting that Steinberg continues to sell a new or modified dongle for those that want them, direct from Steinberg (no more retail distribution), and that the new authentication system would be used to download/transfer licenses to those dongles.

Those who want the dongles can spend the money to get them direct from Steinberg and pay for shipping, and those who are fine with the 30day/yr renew don’t have to get the dongle.

My guess is, most people are just going to adapt the new system, even some of the people complaining here.
