My scenario:
I want to stuck strictly with Cubase 10.5.12 for one practical reason in my workflow, all versions above is out of question.
Since I am using Cubase for more than a decade and planing to do for couple more.
When Dongle brakes(or get lost) after you shut down the eLicenser servers, how can I still use 10.5.12??? No one guaranties me that I will ever use that version again which I pay to use it perpetually…
Are you on Windows 7 or something?
No, he changes samples through the cursor keys.
No, it’s not. I was reacting to this from the unsigned letter writer:
“ However, most of us have our computers connected to the Internet all or most of the time, and when you run your Steinberg software, if a connection is available it will periodically contact Steinberg in the background to update its activation. ”
Bad pro audio practice. Or maybe.”most of us” aren’t professional.
I also just have a knee jerk reaction to changing something that works for us simply to increase sales for the company. Or as Mattias said, and I paraphrase, “The dongle system was over-stressed.” Huh? Of course whatever change that keeps the software afloat is better than seeing it disappear.
I do see some advantages to the new licensing system. However, I’ll keep using the dongle with Cubase 11 as long as I can.
I guess Yamaha will find out if new sales to people who object to the dongle will compensate for the loss of revenue from those who won’t upgrade. I make no prediction.
sorry… we live in 2021… I don’t understand all the hassle
it should be no problem to connect the studio computer to the internet once a year to force OS updates, driver updates and the license renewal…
my home studio systems are always connected to the internet… had no problem the last three or four years
Can anyone clarify what happens if Cubase is not launched for 30 days? I am a hobbyist who will work on a few projects at a time and then take a nice long break after completion. Maybe 6 weeks or more. What happens when I return? Will I be prompted to simply sign in, no problem. Or will I be locked out and need to contact support?
Cheers
you just have to sign in to renew your license on the system… or you can use the one year “permanent” license for that computer, that needs license renew once a year…
You wouldn’t even need to sign in again - just be online and open the product or the Steinberg Activation Manager.
oh… good to know
Thank you! This sounds incredibly painless and transparent for folks in my situation.
Will licenses of old versions (cubase 10) also be shifted to the new system? Or do i have to buy an update to 12?
From what I’ve gathered, upgrading to 12 will allow you to run only 12 with the new license system.
To run 10, you will still need to use your usb Elicenser. (that will still have 10’s license on it.)
But they also said that they would be dropping dongle support eventually?
A minor detail. If a license fails to be found, will the product fail to launch at all? (Is the check performed at the OS, or from within the product?)
Eventually. However, your usb Elicenser will still be able to run all those Cubase versions until something unfortunate happens to it.
only for future versions…
ok, thanks!
Yes, the plan is that the transition is beginning now, with the eventual aim that the eLicenser servers will no longer be necessary and will be switched off.
There are various migration paths we can take and which ones we choose will depend on how the transition progresses and the conversations with users like this!
The check is performed from within the product.
So older versions like cubase 10 would also be dongle free in the future? If yes then its really nice! I have an update but dont plan on activating yet.
