Condensed brass with one main staff label and separate inner labels

I’m sure this has been asked before but I cannot find a relevant topic.

In an orchestral score, let’s say I have 4 horns and 3 trombones. Condensing should be 2+2 and 2+1. If I create custom condensing groups I get two separate staves, each one with their full label (Horn I.II and Horn III.IV).

What if I wanted to have a single staff labels (Horn), then the two staves connected by a secondary bracket (main one is for all brass) showing only I.II and III.IV respectively? Same for trombones: ‘Trombone’ only once and I.II for the top staff and III. for the bottom.

I think I can fake it with a section instrument, add a division and then copy-paste the material in the separate staves which would then be hidden but it doesn’t sound like the proper way.

Am I missing something here?

Thank you so much for your help!

There are settings for single and section players in Engraving Options > Staff Labels

The numbering style (arabic / roman) can be specified in the same dialog window.

Yeah … I think the heat had cooked my brain … forgive me for making you point out the obvious …

Now, though, I have this issue.

I would like the main staff label to be far enough from the initial barline to avoid collisions.

Ok, setting this to 6 seems to fix it.
