Dear friends, I would like to have separated voices, permanently and not like that… I have changed every choice in Notation Options… Any ideas?
I have checked all these options…
Thank you very very very much!!! That option resolved it!!!
Here’s a related question. When I have the two voices in a condensed staff with separate, diverging stems, and I try to get them to amalgamate on one stem, I insert a Condensing Change. But in the window that opens, like the one above in this thread, a little warning triangle appears in the instrument names at upper left, and it won’t allow me to open Manual Condensing to get the stems to align in the same direction. This first appears bar 9 in the bassoons, then bar 13 in the oboes, and many other instances later on. Can you figure out what is going on? Thanks.

I’m not sure what you’re seeing – I’m able to insert a condensing change for the bassoons and oboes with no issues.
Can you post a screenshot of the “warning triangle” that you’re seeing? And list the specific steps you’re taking? (Perhaps I’m inserting the condensing change at a slightly different spot.)
I insert the condensing change on the barline for bar 9, where the double stems begin. Then I check Bassoon 1, Bassoon 2 in the upper left and highlight the names. So far. soo good. But as soon as I check Condensing Approach in the big window the warning sign pops in at upper left while the 2 parts show up below, but I can’t do anything with them and the ;ittle staff assignment window to the right of that . where I would try to assign them so they would amalgamate, doesn’t appear at all. I don’t know how to take a screen shot. ![]()
That would be as easy as asking google « how do I take a screenshot? » and it might help us tremendously in helping you !!!
I see what you mean, the warning only appears when Manual condensing is chosen. Unfortunately I’m using my iPad and condensing is not fully handled by Dorico for iPad, I have no idea why this cannot be used in this case…
I don’t know what that triangle represents, but I seem to be able to add a manual condensing change anyway.
I was just playing around with it and I tried dragging one of the instruments below Manual Condensing into the blank space to the right and it worked! The window appeared and I was able to get the amalgamation to work. Ocam’s Razor!
Now if I can just get all of the unisons to show a2 instead of double stems, I’ll be able to get this score cleaned up!
That’s how manual condensing always works.
Where do you see this happening?
You’re right, I could even do it with Dorico for iPad! But I never noticed that warning… I don’t know why it appears nor what it’s useful for
Bar 37 in flutes is one example, and I just noticed that bar is missing a barline. Where did that ever come from??
See the red signpost? (If you don’t see the signposts, make sure they appear in View menu>View options>Invisibles) Delete it and it’s ok.
I think this has come up before in your questions about condensing: Dorico makes condensing decisions on a phrase-by-phrase basis, where a phrase is a stretch of music between rests. Because the start of that phrase has rests in Flute 1, Dorico separates the parts for the whole phrase. But you can use a condensing change to get what you want.
By the way, in some cases (including this one), it’s sufficient to put in an “empty” condensing change, like this:
All I’ve done there is tick the box for the flutes, haven’t changed any other settings. This basically tells Dorico to consider the music from that point forward as a new phrase; since the remaining notes for the flutes are unison, Dorico is happy to put them on one stem with an a2.
