I can’t seem to condense the Clarinet 2 and 3 parts or the Trumpet 2 and 3 parts using the usual steps I go through to get this done. Can anyone see something I am missing?
Thanks

Your project has a million meter changes that are hidden. They are not in all the staves and so those staves aren’t condensing e.g. Tpt 2 & 3:
Turn Signposts on > Turn Condensing Off > Ctrl/Cmd+A > > Filter Time Signatures > Delete > select the first note > Shift+M > type 3/4 and Enter > turn Condensing On
or…

Daniel,
Thank you so much! I think what caused this was that my original Finale score had the “enlarged” meter signatures used by some of the publishers I work with that only appear on certain staves in the score. This likely made the Music XML file wonky to begin with.
Thanks for the step-by-step instructions on how to fix this.
I don’t seem to be able to filter the time signatures to that I can delete all of them at one time. It will take hours to delete each on separately. Should Ctrl/Cmd A highlight all of the signposts before I filter them out? When I hit Ctrl/Cmd A only one signpost gets highlighted.
Daniel,
Never mind. I figured it out. My brain is fried this evening. I only needed to hit Cmd+A. Duh!
Thanks again.
Gary
Next time you XML from Finale i recommend turning on Time Signatures for all staves in the global attributes. then everything will come in nicely in Dorico and you can paste into your template
Which begs the question to the Dorico team: Should something that’s hidden be an obstacle to condensing?
If all the visible things can be condensed without any problems, that should be enough in my opinion.
bmoriak,
Thanks for this advice. I had a number of global XML preferences set up early on and many seemed to cause more problems than they helped so I unchecked all of them and now have a new set of problems that I encounter.
Estigy,
I agree completely.
bmoriak,
Can you point me in the direction of that preference? I can’t seem to find any reference to Time Signatures in the Preferences section under MusicXML Import.
Hey sorry, I meant in Finale directly, before you XML, turn on time sigs for every staff in the global staff attributes
Got it!
Thanks.
