Confused on metadata/id3v2 for individual tracks in WaveLab 12

I’m pretty new to WaveLab in general, so it’s possible this is just massive user error, or that the function I’m looking for just doesn’t exist, but what I’ve found thus far in the documentation, this forum, and googling is just leaving me confused and not finding how to do what I’m trying to do. Specifically:

I’m wanting to use WaveLab 12 to both author a CD of an EP and set up for rendering various MP3 file types (e.g. 320k, 256k, 192k, and 128k for different purposes) in a single Montage process. What I’ve done thus far:

  1. Started with a stock CD montage and set up markers and CD Text information for the album and individual tracks.

  2. Set up id3v2 fields that can come from CD TEXT fields so those can be populated for tagging/rendering the MP3 files later.

What I’m having a problem with:

There are certain id3v2 fields that are not available from CD-TEXT. Two that immediately come to mind are BPM and initial key, which I’ve been accustomed to adding in MP3Tag when creating MP3 files in Cubase and tagging them separately. There are probably a few others that I’m forgetting at the moment.

The fields in question will be track-specific, not something that applies to the whole EP/album. But anytime I go into the metadata area, where I think I’m trying to affect a specific track, the data seems to be used on all tracks.

Is there any way to do this in WaveLab 12, and, if so, how specifically do I get to the track-specific id3v2 information for these fields that aren’t available in CD-TEXT? If it isn’t possible, is there any workaround for doing this, or will I just need to continue using MP3Tag to add this data later on. (I’m assuming I’ll use the batch processor to render the MP3 files from within WaveLab, but I haven’t gotten that far yet as I’ve been beating my head against the wall trying to figure out the track-specific tags bit.)

I understand you want to generate titles containing metadata that isn’t supported by the CD-Text format. If that’s the case, it is possible to some extent. Due to the limitations of CD-Text, WaveLab includes an additional feature that allows extra metadata to be attached to CD titles.

This feature enables you to define a few extra variables, the contents of which can be accessed in the metadata dialog. While this is an advanced use case, it is achievable with the tools provided.

Thanks, PG. This should do the trick since I don’t think I have all that many fields I use that aren’t available in the CD Text info.

Funnily enough, when I was looking through all the fields yesterday, trying to figure out what data I needed to enter where, I’d noticed the custom fields and wondered what they were about. Then, in an insomniac moment overnight, I got wondering whether they might be able to be used as a workaround here and had decided I’d experiment with the possibility today. It’s good knowing that these fields are indeed intended for situations like this one.
